Micro teaching

Although the class as extremely short as many persons did not show up, i believe we still did the best we could. thanks to those who came through, and special thanks to Eveta and Jeane for participating, and to you miss for multitasking and duplicating your role so micro teaching could be possible.

  1. Great ideas Leo. I am pretty sure that the others will identify some good things about your lesson, so i will just mention a few.

In terms of lesson planning, you did well. The format was consistent with the one prescribed by the Social Studies department. Objectives were expressed as Knowledge and Skills and the concepts and generalizations identified.
In terms of the delivery, you started off well by activating students' prior knowledge of the topic and the use of the scenario helped to achieve this. Setting the purpoose for the lesson was quite good because students need to kknow what they are going to learn as a way to keep them focused.
The lesson was quite engaging in the sense that you got students to interact with the text in order to identify the various reasons why tourists travel. students were given an opportunity to share their own experiences as well. These are some of the good things that you did well in the lesson.
Let's see what the others have to say.

In another post I will note some of the weaknesses as a way to help you improve your practice.

  2. A few weak areas

In terms of planning i found the steps in the Development of the lesson plan to be too brief. Remember that every step is an activity geared towards achieving the objective/s and it must be clearly described in detail.

As a teacher you must try to model the correct language so that students can be more inclined to say the right thing. Avoid using words like "you all" when you are talking to the students as a class. For example you may say something like "after you have read the scenario on your strip, you will share your thoughts with the class'

Since students need to focus on completing any given task you need to time them. Give 2 mins/ 3 minutes to do a task (depending on the nature of the task) and at the end, ask them to stop to continue the lesson. While students are completing a task, do not leave them on their own while you are doing soemthing else. Provide guidance, spend a minute or a few seconds next to each child or group. You need to monitor what they are doing since during this time you are also assessing them.

Still waiting to see what your classmates have to say aboaut your lesson. But what about you Leo, do you find these comments useful?

  3. I think the lesson was simple and sweet; if that's a phrase to describe it.
I was able to follow, and noted the connection between reading and writing.

I also think that this activity was a wonderful experience for all us, we just need to use the comments to inform our later practices
